Resurrecting the Champ

Feature Film

For me this was a story about fathers and sons as much as it was a story about a forgotten boxing champion. Therefore the score has a poignant and interpersonal side for the fathers. The boxing side, because of the finesse and dancer like agility of the sport “back in the day”, has a lilting feel to it often delivered with just solo piano and other times executed with a robust trajectory of personal power.

The true story of up-and-coming sports reporter rescues a homeless man ("Champ") only to discover that he is, in fact, a boxing legend believed to have passed away. What begins as an opportunity to resurrect Champ's story and escape the shadow of his father's success becomes a personal journey as the ambitious reporter reexamines his own life and his relationship with his family.
